The Alchemists have released a special video to explain what sets this show apart. The group produces a new, high-energy worship show every month; each show is based on a theme, and incorporates elements of improv, rock and gospel music, prayer, meditation, and humorous but poignant sermons, with a focus on social justice and interfaith messages. Though 2016's theme titles were chosen last year, the group never knows what direction they will take the show until the month before. Due to a spreading schism in the group's rapidly growing following, the goal of this upcoming show is now to 'alchemize Christ'. The group has just released an official promotional video to explain their intention. "Right now there seems to be a divide in the spiritual community," relates co-founder Christopher Daniels ( "Reverend Divine") in the video, calledThe J Word. "Though we attempt to walk an interfaith path, we carry the wounds of misrepresented religion, corrupted institutions, and tainted dogma. This is no truer than in our relationship to Jesus Christ." Music Director and founding member of Alchemist Theatre, Mark Emerson, explains, "Often, new age spiritual movements will leave out the teachings of Christ because they consider themselves as a 'safe space' away from Christianity. Many modern-day mystics have the best intentions to be inclusive, but often times we end up creating an 'allergy' to anything related to Christ, due to experiences from our childhood. As a gay man raised in the Mormon church, I admit, I have been one of these people." When Alchemist Theatre debuted in December of 2014, they too steered away from Christian teaching. "We soon realized that, to truly be interfaith, as we claim to be, we would need to start incorporating one of the most beautiful spiritual teachings in history. So we did. We began mixing in Christian theology, right alongside many of the other Eastern and Western teachings we've always been fond of. And the moment we began to do this, we started receiving feedback that we were 'becoming too Christian' for some of our devoted fans," says Reverend Levity, Alchemist minister and co-founder (also founder of Reno's comedy troupe, The Utility Players). "It's not that we're becoming Christian," she continued, "it's just that we are now incorporating a teaching we had previously left out, and some people are triggered by that. It's time to heal those triggers -- The Alchemists included." Whether the idea of Christ makes you want to run toward them, or run away, Alchemist Theatre invites all spiritual pilgrims to join them live on 8/17/16 as they bare their souls live on stage, and guide you in joining them as they heal their relationship to the idea of Christ, and make it new again. "You know who would love that idea?...Jesus". ### LINK TO VIDEO: Alchemist Theatre presents: "The J Word" LINK TO ORIGINAL PRESS RELEASE: "Alchemist Theatre transforms Christ" LINK TO OFFICIAL GROUP PROMO VIDEO: Official Trailer
